Miguels Chardonnay
Miguels Chardonnay, from the Miguels family vineyards in Portugal, where the family have been crafting wines since 1926.
They have wine estates in the regions of Douro and Port, Dão and Bairrada, they produce high-quality wines benefiting from an experient family team.
Region: Bairrada, Portugal
Grape Type: Chardonnay
ABV: 13%
Soil: The vines are grown with Guyot system on hills with favourable inclines and terrains that are clay on limestone.
Weather conditions: The average temperature in the Douro Superior is more than 6 degrees higher and the rainfall as little as a third of that in Porto. The first harbingers of spring can be seen early. In February and March, the weather can be fine enough for picnics and this period brings the beautiful sight of white and pink clouds of almond trees in blossom, particularly in the higher regions.
This weather creates low sugar and rich flavoured grapes.
Winemaking / Ageing: Soft pressing of grapes and partial fermentation in French oak. “Batonnage” on lees for 4 months with after which the wine is matured further, again, in French oak.
Tasting: Aspect crystalline and yellow citrine colour. A fine and elegant aroma, where slight notes of white fruits are enveloped by mineral notes from the clay-limestone soil. Voluminous and with a tense cut in the palate.
Food Pairing: A good match for most seafood, freshwater fish, shellfish, salads or rice-based meals such as risotto or paella. Soft cheeses, brie, camembert, or goats cheese. For Chinese food look to pair this wine with Cantonese or Zhejiang style food.
