Les Jardin de Soutard 2013
Les Jardin de Soutard 2013 is produced at Chateau Soutard. The first evidence of Soutard dates back to 1513 with the mention of Bourdieu (a Gascon estate surrounding a farm and a windmill) of Mayne de Soutard.
Jean Couture, a Saint-Emilion Jurat, bought the property in 1699 and his daughter Marie built the chateau in 1741.
Their descendants made the dwelling more beautiful, devoting themselves entirely to the vines. Soutard became one of the first chateaux to plant their vines “in rows”.
In the 19th century, Jean Lavau, one of the biggest landowners in Saint-Emilion made the estate prosper. Then it was handed over to Michel des Ligneris in 1919, whose descendants ran the property for almost a century.
It produces red wines in the AOC Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation. The estate develops a first wine named Château Soutard and a second wine called Jardins de Soutard . The estate has been included in the 2012 Saint Emilion Official Crop Ranking as a Grand Cru Classé.
The estate’s vineyards cover an area of almost 27 hectares, within a total area of 30 hectares. The grape variety is composed of Black Merlot (63%: dominant grape) , Black Cot (2%) , Cabernet Franc (28%) and Cabernet Sauvignon Noir (7%). The estate benefits from an Atlantic-moderate climate.

Wine making / Ageing: For the vinification of its grapes, Château Soutard estate opted for the traditional method. In order to carry out this, thermo-regulated frusto-conical stainless steel tanks are used. Depending on the desired cuvées, if the quality of the grapes and the year permits, the estate vinifies the musts directly undergrowth in oak barrels but also thermo-regulated wooden vats. The area practices malolactic fermentation for red wines. These are then neither glued nor filtered.
This bottle can be aged for 10-15 years in the right conditions.
