Bertani Ripasso
¥320.00
Bertani Ripasso is a wine that is crafted with Corvina Veronese grapes from the Tenuta Novare vineyards in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica area. The Rondilla grapes are grown in the Valpantena vineyards, near the municipality of Grezzana. The Merlot grapes are also grown in the same areas.
Bertani’s traditional devotion to producing classically structured Verona wines is evident in every glass from this bottle. 9 months of French oak ageing on this wine is evident from the first sip. It adds complexity and texture.
Region: Verona – Venetta
Grape Type: 85% Corvina Veronese, 10% Merlot and 5% Rondinella.
ABV: 13.5%
Soil: The soils are calcareous-marl in the east and calcareous-clay in the west, rich in iron. The vines are vertical-trellised and Guyot-trained, with a planting density of 5000 plants/ha.
There are two principal climactic zones in Venetta: the alpine region, characterised by cool summers and cold winters with frequent snowfalls, and the hill and plain areas where the climate is moderately continental. Logically these hills and plains are where most grapes are grown. Solid and consistent periodical rain, with just enough summer to create slow maturing grapes that are perfect for vinification.
Wine making / Ageing:
The harvest is done by hand during the last ten days of September. The best grapes are selected so that only the healthiest and ripest bunches used.
Traditional vinification methods are continued. The must is fermented in wide and shallow tanks, ideal for increasing contact between must and the skins therefore limiting the requirement for mechanical intervention.
Ageing of Bertani Ripasso is done in French oak barrels and is timed to perfection. Ageing is completed when the wine marker decides after a minimum of 9 months.
Tasting: This wine should be decanted. An intense purple-red colour with purplish highlights in the right contrasting light. The nose has a clean and intense aroma of ripe red fruits. Hints of dark fruits such as blackberries, black currants and ripened cherries.
On the palate it is velvet textured and well balanced. Full, rounded, while maintinging an intense grip of ones taste buds. The length is medium with a sepid after taste.
Food Pairing:
Bertani Valpolicella is a medium-bodied wine that works well with both North Eastern Foods and Zhejiang Cuisine. Pairing with western food our recommendation would be Mediterranean meat with pasta, grilled good, or rich poultry.
