Chateau Maurel Syrah
Chateau Maurel Syrah is from Chateau Maurel – a wine estate that exists since the time of the Benedictine monks. Here, the first vines were planted as early as the 17th century. Early on, the quality was associated with a high appreciation of Cabarde’s Appelation. This creates terroir-stressed plants with an impressive body and structure.
Located in the heart of AOP Cabardes, the 160-hectare vineyard (30 hectares of which are farmed) is backed by the Montagne Noire and benefits from the Languedoc sun and the Atlantic freshness all year long. On this unique terroir, at the crossroads of the oceanic and Mediterranean winds, there is a real division between the diversity of soils, climate typicity and mastery of blends.
From 1973, Alain Maurel become the owner of this winery. Then the whole family, father and three girls started the family business together. Now, young oenologist , Oliver Ramé created the high quality products with success after his long trip in the wineries all over the world.
Château Maurel is part of a reasoned agriculture approach, certified by the main organisation “TERRA VITIS”. However, Chateau Maurel has gone much further in respect of the soil. Following a strong believe in an organic approach, they have not used any herbicides in their soils since 2015, with all weeding being undertaken manually.
With the necessary respect for tradition and modern oenology, succeed in wines full of character, which lastingly inspire, especially in the case of this Syrah. A wine of high elegance and yet a lot of power.
